If you have certain professional designations or advanced degrees, you qualify for the CFP Board’s Accelerated Path to CFP® certification. This allows you to bypass most of the education requirement and complete just the Capstone Course to become eligible to sit for the CFP® exam.

The deadline to complete the Capstone Course is approximately one month prior to the CFP® Board’s Education Verification Deadline for each exam.

Curriculum

Our Capstone Course is a flexible two-part program you can start at any time. You’ll learn with a blend of self-paced study and live instructor support — both online.

Phase I

Phase I consists of three online, self-paced learning lessons and a midterm exam. You’ll learn through a combination of readings and videos, and practice questions help you review for the midterm exam. This phase introduces you to the financial planning process and teaches you to gather and analyze client data, develop recommendations, and understand a complete financial plan presentation.

Phase II

In Phase II, you’ll watch the instructor develop and deliver a financial plan via recorded videos. Then you’ll use the same techniques to assemble and present your own financial plan. In this phase, a live office hour is held so you can receive instructor support while developing your financial plan.

FAQ’s

The CFP Board Accelerated Path allows individuals who have certain advanced degrees and professional certifications to bypass most of the CFP® education requirements and sit for the CFP® exam sooner. For individuals who qualify, the only education requirement is the Capstone Course.

There are two requirements. First, you must have one of the approved credentials:

CPA
CFA®
CLU
ChFC
Licensed Attorney
Doctor of Business Administration
Ph.D. in Financial Planning, Finance, Business Administration, or Economics
International CFP® Certification

Second, you must complete the Capstone Course through a CFP Board Registered Program, such as Dalton Education’s.

Once you have met both requirements, you will need to submit documentation showing your credential and Capstone Course completion to CFP Board. You must submit this documentation no later than the Education Verification Deadline for your selected exam. Visit CFP.net for more details on the required documentation for your credential as well as the specific deadline for your selected exam.

If you qualify for the Accelerated Path, you’re able to bypass most of the coursework requirement for CFP® certification. You’re only required to complete the final course, the Capstone, to be eligible to sit for the exam.

Keep in mind that you’ll still need to pass the CFP® exam, fulfill the experience requirement, and hold a bachelor’s degree or higher to earn CFP® certification.

No, Dalton Education does not require proof of your credential for you to be able to enroll in the Capstone Course. You will only need to submit proof of your credential to CFP Board.

When you complete the Capstone, a letter of completion will automatically be sent to you from Dalton Education. You must submit this letter to CFP Board, along with documentation of your approved credential, to get credit for the required coursework and qualify for the Accelerated Path.
